SUMMARY
Incumbents perform plan design and review of projects that involve coordination among multiple departments or agencies. Incumbents develop solutions, interpret policies and procedures, and have the authority to approve and stamp engineering plans.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the design of City projects and/or acts as a project engineer for small projects designed in-house or by consulting engineers, which may include writing specifications, developing engineering plans, preparing work orders, developing preliminary cost estimates, analyzing and resolving drafting and design problems, conducting field investigations, and/or performing other related activities
  • Reviews plans for private developments and ensures they meet all City-imposed requirements
  • Responds to a variety of inquiries, concerns, and/or complaints from City staff, developers, consultants, contractors, and/or the general public related to projects and activities within assigned area of responsibility
  • Prepares, reviews, and analyzes a variety of correspondence, technical documentation, studies, and/or reports related to applicable projects
  • Participates in the development and implementation of departmental design standards, technical policies, and procedures
  • Attends a variety of meetings related to assigned projects; presents information to District Advisory Boards, the City Council, the general public, and/or other interested parties
  • Performs complex calculations and prepares estimates of time and material costs
  • Investigates field problems affecting property owners, contractors, and maintenance operations
  • Cultivate inclusive and respectful working relationships that support a sense of belonging for all employees and community members

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and two years of related civil engineering experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.  Additional education cannot be substituted for experience.

 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 
Must have at time of hire and be able to maintain a State of Arizona Professional Civil Engineer license (PE) or an equivalency through state reciprocity.
