The Position and Ideal Candidate
The President and CEO of the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Corporation report to the Chair of the 9-member Executive Board and work closely with the 16-member Economic Development Board of Directors. This role
Chamber member organizations, elected officials, representatives of public and private sector organizations, education officials, prospect companies, site selectors, and media.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Vision:
- Provide strategic direction and management for the Chamber and Economic Development Corporation.
- Lead long-range strategic planning and focus for both organizations.
- Guide, develop, and direct a 14-member staff.
- Set and achieve strategic objectives in collaboration with the Board Chairs.
- Manage major investor relationships.
- Develop, build, and retain professional staff members.
Program and Membership Management:
- Oversee current programs and develop new initiatives.
- Manage and expand membership and fundraising activities.
Economic Development:
- Lead efforts in business attraction, retention, and workforce development.
- Serve as an advocate for new and expanding businesses and industries.
- Enhance strategic partnerships with local, regional, and state partners.
Governance and Advocacy:
- Maximize Board of Directors relationships.
- Lead political and advocacy activities.
- Serve as a principal spokesperson and community leader to enhance the Chamber’s brand and image.
Community Engagement:
- Maintain high visibility in the community.
- Communicate members’ positions on key issues and highlight Chamber successes to external audiences.
Ideal Candidate:
Our ideal candidate will have been a top executive in a comparable-sized chamber, economic development organization, or related business organization. Or a number two in a senior-level position within a similar organization, as noted above. He or She will be a natural-born leader and have successfully recruited manufacturing companies. He or She will be adept at building relationships from the local level to Washington, DC, to site selectors.
- Proven track record of success in a similar role, with experience in community involvement and significant Board interaction.
- Background in a chamber of commerce, economic development organization, or related business association.
- Experience with a growing population base in a dynamic business market.
- A bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred, and an advanced degree is desirable.
- Graduates of the U.S. Chamber’s Institute for Organization Management, Certified Chamber Executive, or Certified Economic Developer designation are desirable.
