The Position and Ideal Candidate
Position Overview:
The President & CEO of the Stark Economic Development Board is responsible for providing visionary leadership and strategic direction to achieve the organization’s mission and objectives. The CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors, government officials, business leaders, and community stakeholders to advance economic development initiatives that benefit Stark County. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in economic development, exceptional leadership skills, and a deep commitment to the community.
The President & CEO of Stark Economic Development Board will work closely with Strengthening Stark, a community-wide movement focused on making Stark County a vibrant place to live, work, and grow a business. This role goes beyond traditional economic development, as it requires a commitment to community development—creating quality places, nurturing talent, and fostering business growth. The President & CEO will play a key role in aligning efforts to enhance the community’s overall well-being, ensuring that economic growth benefits all residents.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive economic development strategy that aligns with the Board’s vision and goals.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for business attraction, retention, and expansion within Stark County.
- Lead efforts to promote Stark County as a prime location for investment and industrial recruitment.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local, state, and federal government officials, business leaders, and community organizations.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, effectively communicating its mission, goals, and achievements.
- Engage with local communities to understand their needs and ensure that development efforts are inclusive and beneficial to all residents.
Economic Development Initiatives:
- Oversee the planning and execution of key projects, including infrastructure development, workforce training programs, and business incubators.
- Work with businesses to identify challenges and opportunities, providing support to help them thrive in Stark County.
- Collaborate with educational institutions to develop a skilled workforce that meets the needs of local employers.
Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the organization’s budget, ensuring financial stability and effective use of resources.
- Pursue funding opportunities through grants, partnerships, and other revenue-generating activities to support economic development initiatives.
- Organizational Leadership:
- Lead and manage a team of professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
- Ensure the effective operation of the organization, including compliance with all legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
- Report regularly to the Board of Directors on the organization’s performance, challenges, and opportunities.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree
Experience:
- Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a senior executive role in a for-profit business.
- Experience in developing and executing business strategies and plans that have led to organizational growth and success.
- Proven ability to make sound and educated business decisions, highlighting strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
- Experience in building and maintaining strategic partnerships and alliances that enhance business opportunities and growth.

Residency |
Residency within Stark County, Ohio will be required within the first 3 months of employment. | ||||
