Fort Worth Water provides safe, clean, and affordable water to more than 1.4 million people in Fort Worth and 33 surrounding communities. Fort Worth has a total treatment capacity of 517 million gallons per day for drinking water and 166 million gallons per day for wastewater. There are more than 4,040 miles of pipe in the water distribution system, 3,926 miles in the collection system, and 12.2 miles of pipe for reclaimed water.

POSITION & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Water Department’s Capital Delivery Section at the City of Fort Worth is seeking an experienced, highly motivated Senior Professional Engineer with expertise in design and project management. This role will focus on water and wastewater plant/facility projects as well as water and sanitary sewer replacement and rehabilitation projects.

The Sr. Professional Engineer Job Duties Include:

  • Provide technical leadership in the planning, design, and delivery of complex water and sanitary sewer infrastructure projects.
  • Oversee and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure project success and alignment with City standards.
  • Strategically manage funding opportunities — prepare and evaluate loans, grants, and state or federal funding sources to maximize project value.
  • Exercise sound engineering judgment in reviewing pay estimates, RFIs, submittals, and change orders to maintain scope, schedule, and budget integrity.
  • Guide long-term capital planning by contributing to project prioritization, feasibility assessments, and system improvement strategies.
  • Ensure quality through field oversight — inspect facilities and construction activities to verify compliance with design and regulatory requirements.
  • Represent the department in public meetings, professional forums, and stakeholder discussions to communicate project vision and progress.
  • Supervise and train subordinates.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or related field.
  • Five years of professional civil engineering experience as a registered professional engineer of which two years must be within design and project management of water and wastewater projects.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. If licensed in another state, continued employment will be contingent upon obtaining registration as a Professional Engineer within the State of Texas within six months of employment.
  • Candidates must possess a valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

Compensation:

The salary will range from $93,574 to $121,646, commensurate with experience, and includes a competitive benefits package. A $9,000 sign-on incentive is also available.

 

Schedule:

Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm; some evening/weekend work may be required as needed.

 

Residency:

Residency within the Fort Worth region during the position is preferred and highly encouraged.
